I am in a standard broadband contract with BT until Jan 18. I am moving home at the end of October to an area that is fibre-enabled so I want fibre. BT want me to pay £50 per month for Infinity 1 which is way too expensive so I want to switch provider as cheaply as possible.
Someone mentioned to me moving home starts another contract and obviously, I don't want to do that with BT as they are too expensive. I know some providers do buy out credits such as Vodafone and Sky £100 or EE £50
Any advice on the best way to go about doing this?

You are not switching provider...
You are ceasing the existing service and starting with a new provider at the new one.
Buy out credits will not work as its a totally new connection at the new property.

And it gets better.
According to BT any home move automatically renews a new 12 month contract.
Whats the best thing to do here? I dont mind a new 12 month contract if I got some of the perks you get when signing up for a new contract but this seems to be automatically renewed without anything meaning it would be £50 for Infinity 1 which is a damn rip off.

Cancel/terminate your present service and start a new service with your new cheap as chips provider at your new address. OK so you have to eat the termination costs but set those against the gains and goodies with the new contract. For example BT is offering a £125 prepaid card plus a monthly fee way way below the £50 you mention and no doubt others offer something similar.

Couldn't the OP migrate immediately (i.e order immediately and be over by mid-October), having chosen a new supplier that does free home moves?

Give BT a quick call, speak to cancellations, they can get the price down on this I am sure. Not as good as EE etc, but less than £50 for sure.

It was them I spoke to, they weren't interested as I was in contract.

Up to 78 max, Estimated was around 67, that was on BT Infinity 2

I think this is the way out. a £125 gift card + if done through Quidco £110 cash back. So thats £235 for switching. I'll even make a bit of profit out of it. Comes in at £36 per month for BT infinity 1 + Anytime calls which sounds more reasonable.

I would speak to Vodafone, Sky and EE. Explain the situation, make sure they understand and see what buy out credits they offer, if any. You can also ask BT what they would charge if you leave, and what deal if any they are prepared to offer at you new home.

I have moved in-contract and have been offered very good deals when moving house. When you go to do the home move online, it will display various options at your new address with a number of different pricing options. I took a new package which was TV + Infinity whereas I had only Infinity before, by adding the tv at the time I ended up paying less than just the broadband. Have you had a look at this?

Right folks I went through the BT home move online for a quote. The results aren't good. Zero offers here. Infact you see the last package offered for unlimited broadband? Well I have a deal on that and currently pay £32 pm for that with anytime calls, they are now looking £42.99 for only weekend calls. They're not bad craic with pricing like that £49.99 for infinity 1 with only weekend calls + £50 activation fee.

So don't do a home move. Just tell them you are moving and as such want to end the contract.
Then set up a whole new one with whoever you want at the new address.
Might cost you a few £ to end the contract. But shop around and use the likes of Quidco or other cashback site and you will make for more than it cost you to cancel.
I got over £200 for a move to virgin, with the full tv package, phone & 200 BB all for £85 a month for 12 months.
