What's the cheapest way to dispose of an unwanted line?

I have two BT FTTC lines, I'm migrating one due to price rises - I want to cease the other, I don't need it anymore. The problem is BT have told me a cease would cost £150 ... so how do I get rid of this unwanted line at minimum cost? Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

Got through to a very laid back Irish guy, who after a long wait passed me on to retentions, who said I'd pay nothing for cancelling - so that's a bit of a difference from £147 tongue

Let's hope there isn't another cock-up from BT ...

It's the price rise 30 day migration window, not sure how that differs from normal out of contract? Thanks for the links.

I did not pay a penny when I ceased a line with BT, I cancelled out of contract when I moved property. I just setup a new service at my new place with Sky.

I am suspecting the charges are to "buy out" the contract or are due to being still in a minimum term.

If terminating within the 30 day price rise then they can't charge for minimum term fees. However, there may still be a disconnection charge as you are fully cancelling rather than migrating. Have BT stated what the £150 is made up of?

I wonder line termination fees are permitted under Ofcom's in-contract price rise regulations, it could be regarded as a "penalty".

Reading the thread that was posted it does look like no cease charge should be applied if leaving because of the price rise.

Cease what?

So the FTTC is going up, but was the line rental still in a contract?

Could be they will argue that they will cease the FTTC FOC, but the other part could incur a cost

I believe Ofcom ruled that if one aspect went up you could cancel all related items without penalty (including packages where it is phone, broadband, TV - plus refunds if you paid for line rental saver up front).
