BT downstream line rate 80, downstream sync speed 62

[link to this post]

I've been an Inifinity 2 customer for a few years and was initially getting high speeds in the 70s, but over the last few months this has reduced to 58Mb, with a maximum downstream sync speed now at 62Mb and no change when plugged directly into the master socket with the face plate off.

I've done all the home checks which showed no problems. BT Support have been less than helpful.

My hub log follows:

Maybe the DLM is seeing high enough levels of errors that it is slowing you down to reduce the error rate, i.e. ensure that data sent across is error free and thus avoids delays due to retransmits or drop outs in video playback.

If the drop is speeds coincide with the use of the Hub 6A then using a different modem to feed the Ethernet WAN port of the Home Hub may be the answer to improving things e.g. bridge modems like HG612, TP Link W9970 that have Broadcom chipsets, might help.

Yes, like Andrew has said, DLM looks like it has increased interleaving/the downstream noise margin to try and keep the line stable/error free. If what Andrew has said doesn't work, try using a landline phone, and dial 17070, then select option 2. See if there's any noise on the line (do this with the phone connected to the test socket like your Hub is now).

If there's noise, report a telephony fault to your ISP.

OK I purchased a HG612, rev 3B. How do I set that up with my Homehub - is there a guide anywhere?

(I tried quiet line - seems very quiet to me)

Do you know whether or not it is unlocked?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 75808/13984Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

Even if locked if its in default modem (bridge) mode, should be plug into line, see the VDSL2 sync LED is happy and then plug into the Ethernet WAN (EWAN) port on the home hub.

If unlocked all depends on the state it was left unlocked in, since it can run as a full modem/router (just no wireless)

You cant use an external modem with the Hub 6 (smart hub). You need a Hub 5 or earlier to do this.

Or one of the made for FTTP versions .... branded Ultrafast on the front.

Like this on the bay of fleas ... https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/BT-Ultrafast-Smart-Hub-Rout...
