Want to change phone number - does this impact ADSL?

[link to this post]

A client of mine has a slightly complicated situation:

- they have two houses (they built a new house in the grounds of the original house)
- in the old house they have a line paying rental to BT with no ADSL service at all.
- in the new house they have a line paying rental to BT with an ADSL service from IDNet.

They are moving from the old house into the new house and have decided that they would like to transfer the number from the line in the old house to the line in the new house. They would then cancel the line in the old house.

I am concerned that doing so will interrupt the ADSL service on the line in the new house somehow.

BT are washing their hands of it and have simply said speak to IDNet. IDNet seem confused and are getting someone to ring my client back.

Has anyone else ever changed the number on a line with ADSL provisioned on it and did the ADSL service remain uninterrupted?

This may well trigger a cease as it would look like a new person moving to the backend systems I suspect.

So ADSL might be lost, as for others doing this cannot recall an exact scenario and outcome

I think the better of two feasible solutions is get the old line physically re-terminated at the new house then IDNet supply ADSL on it. Then cease the new line and ADSL line. With luck IDNet will consent to transferring the (minimum term?) contract with no penalty. Though a broadband cease charge is likely on it.

The alternative is slightly different but perhaps riskier. IDNet supply ADSL on the old line before physically moving the termination place and ceasing the new number services.

A bit changing the termination point when a small business moves from one address in an old large building on a corner to an address in the same building on the other street round the corner. Both line and broadband were with BT and both offices supplied from the same junction box on the wall when I considered this.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 75808/13984Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

I would suggest that it almost certainly WILL trigger a cease order on the broadband.

Thanks all for your helpful replies.

Yes, I confirm that yesterday my client received an automated message from IDNet stating that the phone line will be ceased which will cause the ADSL to cease also.

To avoid hassle, my client has just decided to forget about transferring the number and just cancel the line in the old house. She will be cancelling the number transfer.

RobertoS: I like your suggestion!
