New closer Cab but VDSL still less than ADSL. Options?

[link to this post]

Hi All,

Sorry for the long post, but I have no idea where to turn. Any help would be grately appreciated.

Up until the end of last year my phone was connected to a cabinet that was over 1km away and even though it was upgraded with FTTC the expected rates were showing far less than current ADSL speeds of about 4000 Kbps.

At the start of this year a new closer cabinet has been installed and according to the BT checker my line was moved to it. This new cabinet also has FTTC and is less than half the distance, so I thought it would have improved VDSL speeds. My ADSL speed has improved by about 1500 Kbps, here's my current stats...

Line Rate (Down / Up) 5792 Kbps / 896 Kbps
Noise Margin (Down / Up) 6.6 dB / 7 dB
Attenuation (Down / Up) 43.5 dB / 25.5 dB
Power (Down / Up) 20 dBm / 12.6 dBm

According to BT checker, VDSL is showing this for Range A clean...
Downstream High 6.9Mbps
Downstream Low 3.3Mbps
Upstream High 1.2Mbps
Upstream Low 0.8Mbps
This is only a marginal increase from what it was showing on the 1km away cabinet.

Address checking next door (They are on TalkTalk and their number doesn't work on BT checker) shows they can get 35Mbps High, so distance can't be the problem now. However it's important to note that they are not connected to the same DP as me.

Going back about 20 years, a new DP was placed outside my house with the markings "FILCOM 07/97" on the cable coming out of the road into it. From the DP a white cable (Approx. 2m) was run into the house and connected to a dual socket as I had 2 phone lines back then. Now I only have 1 active.

The socket box in the house is white with a trumpet player at the top left. I've opened it up today and on the circuit board are a few resistors and capacitors. The board has a marking of "DRG. No. D08-3645 ISS.3" The white cable going into it only has 4 strands. For "CIRCUIT 1" (Active line) a black strand goes into position 5 & a green strand into position 2. For "CIRCUIT 2" (Unactive line) a white strand goes into position 2 & a salmon strand into position 5. There is no test socket.

It'd be nice to be able to get a faster connection, so could it be the cable from the 20 year old DP and the BT socket that's a problem? Does anyone know who I can contact to find the reason and look at implementing a solution?

Thanks for taking the time to read the post. I just don't know where to turn on this.

The line rates you have posted are for ADSL?

If yes, then the new cabinet won't change those, you will only benefit from VDSL if you order.

It is possible the estimates given for VDSL have not been updated and ordering may do that.
