Pending EO Lines... Sorry....

[link to this post]

I am sorry, I know this topic has been covered a million times with differing answers but I am just looking for any information available about when these darned things will be switched to a cabinet or something else that will allow a faster connection.

I live in Midsomer Norton, BA3 post code and am connected to the Midsomer Norton exchange. It is a smallish town and has been fibre enabled for years now. About three years ago I bought a new build house and naively thought that it would be connected to a fibre cabinet at the very least... Well I was wrong! The house is connected to an EO line.

I am able to get good ADSL speeds approx 14mb DL / 1MB UL.

I work from home as an IT consultant so I have had two ADSL lines installed and I load balance the connection giving approx 28MB DL / 2MB UL.

You may think to yourselves, that's not to be sniffed at, there are people in much worse situations than him! This is True and for the most part I am happy with the DL it's just I crave more UL bandwidth for work purposes as I am constantly connected via VPN's to client networks regularly transferring large files back and forth.

Does anybody have any insider information or advice they can offer to try and give me some hope for the future?

Thanks in advance smile

A lot depends on what the CDS Connecting Devon and Somerset project is doing, i.e. any information on https://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/

By the way there is plenty of EO lines in Midsomer Norton still

My rural exchange now provides a few FTTC to some newly placed cabs in and around the local exchange village. All the lines were EO but those of us on longer lines some miles away from the village can not benefit or get FTTC connections.
The exchange is still 20CN so just ADSL1 for those of us that can't get FTTC.

I'm in a similar position - I have an EO line and I work in the IT industry from home, and use VPNs all day (incoming and outgoing). My exchange was upgraded to ADSL2+ at the end of last year and I now sync at 14Mbps down 1Mbps up. However, the upload is just too slow, and bonding/balancing 2 or even 4 lines wouldn't provide enough upload bandwidth, so I load balance with 4G using a Vigor 2860n+. The overall speed is rather variable, but upload can be up to 28Mbps and rarely drops below 6Mbps.
I use a Three data sim with a 100GB monthly allowance for £30 per month. In my area EE would be slightly faster, but more expensive.
So if you have a reasonable 4G (or even 3G) signal you may find a similar solution works for you too.

I am in CDAS area, before we were upgraded I found them very helpful. I take it you have been in touch with them?
I too was an EO which had a new PCP and fibre cab installed, though there was over 500 EO lines so it made it worth them doing it.
