Cheap service for Grandma - with calls

Hi,

I look after my grandma�s utility accounts and she�s currently with talktalk.

She gets ADSL and line rental for £20 then free U.K. calls with an international bolt on for £6. Total cost £26 per month.

All the offers are ending so it�s probably going to be £24 + £10 + £6 then some random TV cost of £4.

I don�t think she even uses the internet now.

Is there a good line rental only option with either cheap calls or a cheap package?

Her daughter is in Australia so she needs to call there once or twice per week.

If keeping the broadband then signing another contract for 12 or 18 months might get a decent price again

NOTE: The random TV cost may be something that can be opted out of i.e. it is not needed if using just the Freeview side of the TalkTalk/YouView boxes

Why not just pay for a mobile sim and use WhatsApp for international calls? Would cost £10 pm for a decent amount of data and unlimited UK calls.

Whatsapp is great but many elderly don't like mobile, let alone apps.

Talktalk may still sell their line rental & calls service only (ie no broadband on line), worth giving them a call and asking. They stopped advertising their voice only service yonks ago but it could still be ordered over the phone - however not sure if thats still the case.

That sounds just what we want for a relative.

The Ofcom imposed discount on BT has pretty much killed landline only deals

Have just changed a neighbour from TalkTalk broadband.
Neighbour has lost partial vision result of AMD. Only needs telephone line.
Best deal I found and switched him over was the Post Office.
£13.00 per month including posted monthly bills payable at the Post Office.
Changed via the telephone, seemed very smooth. The PO notify TalkTalk and do it all.
Appear to be very efficient.

For a 'anytime' plan the Post office deal is 20% cheaper than BT
