As below, The S/w on the disks is not the same.
and AFAIK you cannot integrate Black discs into a white disc network
(White discs can select one to be master, Black ones the Smart Hub 2 is master by design)
in full:
The BT Smart Hub 2 (large Circle the height of the unit on the front)
is designed to be the master disk, and only have black discs as slaves.
Advantage is that the Hub's wifi SSID/Pass and menu's/Status are all integrated.
i.e. The disc's echo the Wifi setting of the Hub, and the connected devices are seen in the Hub status etc.
The BT Smart Hub 1 (Hub 6), large bar across the front (as you link to)
It cannot integrate "as one" with discs (black or white)
The white disks are added as a standalone mesh set...
ONE disc is selected to be master, and be the 'edge' connection to your router / internet.
Like any stand alone add-on mesh AP system:
You set a new Mesh SSID/Passphrase independent of the Smart Hub.
This then applies to all the white discs you have meshed/added together.
Indeed, the guide suggests turning off the SmartHub Wifi and only using the discs to save confusion/having to jump between the two SSID's (which is a but of a shame for such a reasonable Hub .... might as well get simple router and add the mesh)
So choices are:
- run BT Smart Hub (1), with one disk as standalone Access Point
- run BT Smart Hub (1), with several disks in a uniform SSID mesh...
and choose to leave the BT Smart hub wifi enabled or not.
(you could hide it in a corner, so no one can access the BT-wifi signal !)
- swap out to a BT Smart Hub 2, and go locate some black discs...
(ebay comes to mind...)
The hardware for the discs is the same... Dual band,
(with the mesh and 5GHz sharing use of the 5GHz radio.)
But the S/w is not the same, though from the same supplier.
(which is probably a shame - it could have auto detected the presence of Smart Hub 2, and let it be master automatically etc.) but there you are.
BT Smart Hub 1 type A : SagemCom (ex Siemens Gigaset) S/w
BT Smart Hub 1 type B : Arcadyan S/w
BT Smart Hub 2 (only 1 type) : Arcadyan S/w
