BB Slows Down and needs a reboot

[link to this post]

Hi, I have had the following issue for the last 10 years. Basically the download speed progressively slows down over a month to the point where I have to re-boot the router and then the whole cycle starts again. I was with Talk Talk originally and they sent an Openreach engineer who said there may be noise on the line. As the phone line is underground he logged it as no fault found and left. switched to BT and still had an issue - tried numerous new routers, but still had this issue. The went to Sky and the issue would happen every night - by the time I got up the speed had fallen to 1.5Mb download speed and therefore I put in a power plug that turned the electric on and off every morning at 4am. I spoke to Sky and they could not help at all and allowed me to exit the contract. I then went with SSE and we are back to monthly reboots of the router. I now have a TPLink Archer VR2800 installed. I tried to activate QoS on this, but immediately impacts the service.

**Note : In all these scenarios, what was interesting is that when the service would drop, it would "come back to life" if I made a phone call.

I would appreciate any help / advice as I suspect that I have a physical line problem, but as the line comes up through the ground, Openreach dont want to do anything about it.

As an aside the dining room and my sons bedroom struggle with coverage - the dining room is approx 8 metres from the router with stud walls in between. The Archer has been ok, but now after 2 years it appears to struggle with coverage so I am considering deploying a BT Mesh Network.

Do you have any comparative line stats from when its running well and when it isnt ?

Interesting, I have a very similar issue. ISP is Plusnet, landline BT.
Find i Have to "stretch" the line everyday, sometimes several times a day. Normal stats are 15-20MB download and 0.2 to 0.3 upload( due to distance from cabinet) on FTTC.
I stretch the line by running speedtests and you can see the speed gradually increase after 2-3 runs. Speed (download) drops to 2-3MB and sometimes even stalls and recovers to 15-20mb after stretch. If it stalls completely i power down router, disconnect line and restart.
Router is TP LINK ac1900 and experienced similar issue with archer router. Line is overhead from cabinet and passes thro several trees and speed is better when wet. BT have replaced virtually all the copper line and always come up with no-fault found - Plusnet never interested.
Its liveable but annoying and has been like this for about 2 years. Time of day makes little difference and able to download HD video with very few problems.
Keen to hear if anyone has any ideas as to what causes this.

Hi, How do i collect the stats ? I have only ever used a speedtest tool to see what the download speeds are on wireless (after all who has a wired connection these days?).

Anyone who wants their internet link to work or needs to check something about their internet link without the possible interference and congestion which may occur with an internal WiFi connection.

Lots of people using desktop computers! Anyone living in a high rise block where WiFi will always be subject to lack of channels for performance.

I use laptops a lot with external screens and keyboards, so also plug in Ethernet for speed and reliability.
