Hi, I am currently on Talk Talk with their supplied router (I have ordered a switch to Sky but it hasn't happened yet) - the main reason is that I was previously with Vodafone and had 74mbps with my FTTC, but with Talk Talk my sync speed is 72.8 but my speed tests never get faster than 58mbps . . . Can anyone please advise why my speed tests are around 15mbps sslower than my sync speed and if (other than leaving Talk Talk) there might be anything I could do to improve it? If I can get my real download speed up to the way it used to be I could just stay with Talk Talk . . . As mentioned I used to get over 70mbps on this line with Vodafone for over 18 months and my next door neighbor gets 74mbps speed test with Sky . . . another question as well, would my old Vodafoone router work with my Talk Talk connection or are they set up to be provider specific?- Thanks Simon

Ideally need to see a speed test result from https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest the shape of the graphs can give important clues
If testing over Wi-Fi it may just be the Wi-Fi is slower with the vodafone device, another option is the throughput is just more variable due to contention, a speed test will give some idea when you look at the graphs, rather than just the single figure.

The speedtest has a link you can post on this site.

Thanks this is the link it shows . . .

Looks good, both download tests hitting a clear maximum and no variation. So no sign of why throughput is a lot lower than would be expected from a download sync of 70 Mbps and over

Yes exactly and rebooting router (and even tried starting a new session by disconnecting for over 30 minutes) produces the same result, the only thing I can assume is that I am being throttled by their DLM at the exchange? Do you have any ideas on how I might be able to get them to increase my throughput? Thanks

DLM refers to the sync speed which you are reporting as over 70 Mbps, so its not DLM
It is possible TalkTalk has an another system that is limiting you, or the modem is reporting the attainable rather than actual sync speed

OK thanks, do you know if my Vodafone router might work with my Talk Talk connection? or are the provider supplied routers specific to that particular provider?

Your VF router is unlikely to work, but it might.... no harm in plugging it in and seeing what happen (they VF and TT use different methods of authentication)
A non-ISP supplied router or modem will work on TT enabled line.
Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)
