Urgent crash course on video streaming out from iPad

[link to this post]

I would like some instructions for a newbie on how to do that please. Whilst simultaneously able to save the video to the iPad in case anything goes wrong with the transmission.

It is of the service at a crematorium on Wednesday.

I have an unlimited Three SIM, in a Huawei (Android) phone, so tethering my iPad to that should enable me to do a live stream of the ceremony if the family would like that. Assuming I get a decent signal in the Crem.

The question is, what do I have to do, and what do those receiving it in Australia have to do? Help please.

I'm happy I can take a decent video, and the tethering is something I often do for receiving. But I haven't a clue about streaming out.

I do have FB on the iPad and also an account with them. The family I think use WhatsApp quite a lot, that I know nothing at all about but could probably pick up enough on Tuesday if you feel that is best.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received. With luck I can practice at home by streaming out on mobile broadband via the phone as proposed, and receiving on my laptop which is connected to my independent Three HomeFi router. (Remembering to turn off the wifi on my phone!)

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

This app would seem to cover your needs. The first review states that they use it to stream, and archive, church services. Disclaimer - I have no experience of this app.

If it were me I'd separate the two tasks and keep it simple.

I use WhatsApp a lot. I have taken part in a threeway video link but generally only use one to one which works perfectly.

As for the video, I have a YouTube channel where I post videos recorded at our local community centre. Quite often I've come home early from an event and edited/uploaded the video which was then available online before the event actually finished.

p.s. - although the link to that app does look interesting and I'll certainly be having a play with it myself smile

Thanks to both of you. That link from Tiny does look very good, (thanks smile), though a recent review when I followed it a bit earlier using my iPad gave a lower rating than it does just now on my laptop, with most reviews earlier being 1 or 2 years old and only using it for viewing. The third along horizontally was labelled "Sun"day. and said that it isn't true because although the app is free the task requires additional hardware.

That could be that the extra kit required is a connection to the internet LOL.

I'm settling down now for a good go at the problem and I'll come back with how I get on. At worst I will settle for a simple video that can be edited if necessary and sent in good condition. That is the more important part of the exercise.

There's no guarantee I'll get a good signal anyway, unless the crem has wifi.

The Facebook app does live streaming. On your normal news feed tab at the top where you have "What's on your mind?" there is a "Live" button. I've never used it but if you google "facebook live stream" there are articles that talk you through how it works.

Obviously do a dry run before the day to make sure it all works.

I was going to suggest going live on Youtube too. It supports private sessions if necessary where you supply Youtube with a list of email addresses to invite, but they have to be associated with a Google account I think.

Thanks all. But I'm going to stick to simply taking a straight video to put up later on Dropbox or my own (unlimited) webspace. I am totally confident about doing that.

Basically although I could have achieved success by now, I would also have the problem of the watchers being umpteen hours ahead of us, (I don't know exactly where they are in Australia), and establishing successful test runs with them beforehand.

I would need to involve my brother and the deceased's son, plus those in Aus at a time when I really don't think they should have to be thinking about it. The original plan was a video to be sent afterwards, so I shall do that.

On top of that, it looks like FB and every other live streaming option I looked at including the one Tiny linked to involves giving whichever app I chose wanting too much info in terms of privacy not just of myself but of anyone I invited/allowed to watch it live. Even using the restricted access methods.

I feel they are all going to open up the Contacts lists of all involved and spread the "You might like to link to/follow" etc. spider's web.

I would have to raise that privacy issue with them all as well. This way there isn't a problem.

Maybe if I'd started a week ago the above could have been calmly decided on by all concerned, but not at this stage. Even then, working from places with a good signal is no test of what might be a very poor one inside the crematorium. There is no mention on its website list of services of wifi availability.

Thanks again, and sorry for troubling you.

No problem Bob, sounds like a very sensible approach.

RobertoS

Have you asked the Crem if they already have video technology available, Some will video the service for you with their fitted equipment making it far easier and maybe better quality. Certainly a better angle though you don't get to choose the shots or film the 'congregation' .

( My commiserations to you )
