Why has upload slowed 50% since FTTC?

[link to this post]

TBB check of my PN FTTC this evening returned its normal 36Mb but as usual upload was only 1.6Mb. On ADSL2 I used to get around 12Mb down, 4Mb up and have often wondered why upload speed has decreased so considerably under FTTC. I'm very happy with my PN service but curious as to why upload is slower compared with my 'slow' old ADSL.

ADSL2+ max upload was 2.3meg on ANNEX M I think it was, there is no way you could have got 4 meg upload on that technology

and to see that was fairly uncommon. Not many offered (or offer) it.

You also needed a very short line to benefit.

Ancient processor atop shoulders hiccuped again! However my upload speed is significantly slower since ADSL to FTTC, no problem but I merely wonder why upload speed became slower when download speed trebled?

Are those results from a speed test or actual connection speeds?
There maybe something with your wiring or filtering or the profile is set incorrectly for your line.
What are connection stats from the router?

I seriously doubt your ADSL2+ upload exceeded the 1.6 Mbps of your FTTC. in fact if your ADSL service was with plusnet most likely it was 0.4 Mbps or 0.8 Mbps

On the FTTC upload people need to see the connection figures, and it is possible Plusnet have you on a 40/2 profile rather than than the more standard 40 down 10 up profile.

It is technically possible, but it would be extremely unusual. It is a different set of frequencies used for the uplink than the downlink. There are many more for downlink which is why the service is asymmetric. If there is a partial fault on the wires between your home and the cabinet, or they contain a lot of aluminium that the radio frequencies used don't get through on the uplink as on the downlink.

As others have said; it is more likely something isn't right in the setting up of your service

I still think my ADSL upload was faster than current FTTC, but thank you all for your comments. As I said, I'm pleased with my service, no downtime/outage in six years, and my question is just out of curiosity, I believe in leaving well alone!

My line is about 300m from the cabinet, first half underground, second half overhead cable with 60m ACSS (aerial cable self-supporting as it was once called, renewed about 30 years ago) to our house gable. My PC is connected to the router via ethernet cable though my wife's PC and our iPads have similar speeds over wifi.

TBB speed test is here
Using BT HH6 on Plusnet and stats are:
Firmware updated: 20-Mar-2020
DSL uptime: 5 Days, 17 Hours 44 Minutes 22 Seconds
Data rate: 10.00 Mbps / 40.00 Mbps
Maximum data rate: 34111 / 88097
Noise margin: 22.3 dB / 19.6 dB
Line attenuation: 17.6 dB
Signal attenuation: 12.6 dB / 17.6 dB
VPI / VCI: 0/38
Modulation: G_993_2_ANNEX_B
Latency type: Fast Path

Something is wrong with an upstream sync of 10Mbps and max achievable of 34Mbps and just 1.6Mbps actual ...

I would start by disconnecting the modem from the line and leaving it for an hour or so, then power up modem, wait 5 minutes and then reconnect to the line and then see what sync, max and actual upstream speeds you get.

Do the tests with your just wired PC connected and also turn the WiFi OFF.
