Web sites timed out - any ideas?

Hi, I''ve been asked for help by a neighbour who is on SSE fibre broadband.

Many web sites are failing to load, Microsoft Edge responding (eventually) with 'Hmmm... can't reach this page" and site took too long to respond. In particular this happens with sse.co.uk so can't report anything to them online.

This started happening last week. Nothing changed with router setup that I know of.

Certain sites seem OK, e.g Google and the default Bing page when starting Edge.

When it fails, it shows 'establishing secure connection' and then times out.

Applies with Windows 10 laptop with wireless and wired connection, also my Android phone.

Wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Possible DNS servers - try setting 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 as the DNS servers for the PC

Another option particularly if this is just https sites is that the MTU is causing fragmentation and breaking https/ssl in which case tweaking MTU on the PC and or router may help.

deliberately does not redirect the http to https, so can be used i.e. if http loads but https does not then points to MTU issues

Thanks Andrew, we adjusted MTU on the Windows laptop and that now works.
Don't appear to be able to adjust MTU on (non-rooted) Android phone or tablet unfortunately, so we'll have to follow up with SSE support.

Maybe a setting on the router.

Does SSE use Talktalk ?
I know that Talktalk (home broadband) are having one of their spells where they're blocking sites like TeamViewer.
Maybe also other sites, don't know.

Teamviewer can end up being blocked by the number of scam callers using it for malware purposes

Believe people can get the block removed via the Parental Controls systems (if memory serves right)

How many people can be in teamview?
