TalkTalk Speed Issues

[link to this post]

Hi guys, just need some advice.

I moved on to a new estate (Summer 2018), postcode is LE7 9TX. We do not get FTTP and I don't think we get FTTC either.

I've been with TalkTalk since the start and had been getting 65mb up until last week without issue. Suddenly, I now keep getting drops where the internet completely goes, or I end up with really slow speeds.

I am now averaging 30mb, so half of what I am paying for. An engineer has been out since to have a look at the line but that has not helped. They have done several other checks but nothing that has resolved the issue.

This morning I was getting 10mb.....

I have a few questions.

1. I can leave if they can't resolve the issue. However if I go to another provider will they not use the same line so I'll be stuck with the same issue?

2. The TalkTalk website now states it can only deliver around 35mb guaranteed if I was to sign up as a new customer, yet other providers still state 70mb.

3. Is there anything I can do to get fibre rolled out sooner with other residents in the area or at least improve the current infrastructure?

At those speeds it is FTTC.

Other ISPs will use the same line and will use the current estimates for their guaranteed speeds.

If you want to get FTTP rolled out you can go FTTPoD or you can look at a community fibre partnership. FTTPoD is usually expensive and a CFP will require some work to be able to get it arranged and get people to sign up for it - takes quite a lot of effort potentially but it can be done.

Ideally you need to get it resolved through the current ISP. Can you post all of the stats you can get from the router - ie minimum of Attenuation, line speed and SNR.

I've been on the phone to talktalk this morning and they have just reset my router, so I will post them this evening. They are also sending out another engineer.

You have FTTC indeed as shown on the broadband checker.

Your speeds may be dropped due to either crosstalk or perhaps your router isn't functioning properly. You can check your router stats to see if your system up time is being maintained.

If the router is not maintaining stable sync and is rebooting due to overheating for example then that can trigger DLM to reduce your speeds. The only way you can find out is by periodically logging into your router stats via http://192.168.1.1/0.1/gui/#/login/

The speed estimates on TalkTalk are always lower. I get 80Mbps router sync speeds but their max prediction is 73.6 Mbps.

Check here for your lowest and highest speed estimates. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/...

Also CityFibre are planning to build FTTP in your area.
"We are currently planning the build programme in your area.
