How to increase speed and wif signal

[link to this post]

Hi all total noob here looking for some answers. I have talk talk fiber 150 installed where i get average 125mb per second wireless on my desktop in the same room. We have moved into an extension separated by 3 brick wall around 10-15 meters away, bringing the speed down to 5-25mb. Power lines dont work as not on same circuit. Whats the best way of improving my speed up to the 100mb mark? Re route the phone line? repeaters? extenders?. We have plug sockets with repeaters built in but dont really do anything. Suggestions welcome.

Cat5e/6 cable and RJ45 sockets and a WAP

The best way is with Ethernet cabling. However what are you trying to connect? Tablets and phones don't have Ethernet sockets.

So what you might need to do is run Ethernet cabling from the TT fibre router into the extension, and attach a Wireless Access Point (WAP) which gives a separate WiFi signal in the extension.

Thanks for the update trying to avid cables if possible. Running a speed test via app on firestick plugged in tv. I get a reading of 77dBm which l believe is a measure of the signal strength, this being in poor bracket?

77dBm converts to 50.2 kW and no way could it be that high or you would be fried.

Sorry -77dbm.
Looking at maybe a different router with better signal, but expensive around £200 with WAN ports?

That's better, it does not look to be too bad, however, every device can be different, different antenna, case or location.

A different router/hub might improve it, it might make it worse! Most will aim for the maximum legal power. Try turning the original through 45, 90, 135 degrees and see if the signal strength changes - with some it may.

You would want one with LAN ports - WAN is the Internet, LAN is your house.

The simplest and easiest way would be cable and a WAP - not your preference but little else you could easily do. There are some fairly thin Cat5e cables - and if you can conceal that, then problem solved. Can you access under the floor?

Would a mesh system not work on a 150 connection?

I thought of that, but given the three walls and drop from 150 to near nothing, it might need two or three or more access points.

The problem is the walls, and given the signal loss there is probably some metallic insulation or metalwork which is blocking the signal. Mesh gets expensive if you have to dedicate two or more points to be either side of a wall, and whilst you might get connection, you may get poor performance.
