BT FTTC where the property has very old phone wiring

[link to this post]

Hi - my sister lives in an old cottage, currently has TallkTalk but only getting 1Mb download. TalkTalk not offering a better speed but BT offering 40Mb upwards knowing the address and existing phone number. I decided to look for the Master socket etc but there does not seem to be one. There are four extension wall mounted sockets which are daisy-chained together and an 'old' bell.
Is this doomed to failure? Worth getting a full BT install rather than the DIY option?

Help please.

Firstly, what does the BT DSL checker say? Based on her phone number - just cut and paste the key info.

What type of service does she have?

How good are you are DIY wiring?

Go with an ISP with good customer service - a good ISP will also only put you on a 12 month contract.

Then either:
Go for for a FTTC upgrade on the existing line and work with the ISP if you don't get the advertised speeds, or
Get a new line put in (which will have a new master socket) and get the number transferred over (or move the number to VoIP)

Also, if you talk to a good ISP, they may well arrange for an OR visit to fit a new master socket.

MHC thanks
BT say 77 to 80 down and 19 to 20 up for both VDSL ranges. The cabinet is within 50 metres.

The cottage has stone walls and solid floor so changing the wiring will be a pain but doable.

That is what I am veering to - I've used the combined VDSL and phone socket face plate in the past. The electro-mechanical ringer may have to go.

I would suggest a full install with a NEW master installed. Leave the phone wiring there are you may be able to use some for extensions and even if you are star wired, there is a way to convert to daisy chain (no-perfect but doable). Stone walls may well give problems with DECT phone and WiFi.

TO get full coverage, you may well have to run in Cat5e and several WAPs.

Chose a decent ISP - TT have already ruled themselves out by demonstrating their lack of knowledge or desire to assist.

What post code are you. ?

Have you used this checker ? Copy results and remove personal details then add to your post so others can help you.

What about FTTP ?. (It will show WBC FTTP on the checker Not FTTPoD which is expensive).
