FTTP available for months but no suppliers aside from BT

[link to this post]

HI

Openreach have been able to supply FTTP to my house since Feb this year but so far outside BT none of the other suppliers listed by teh Openreach site as FTTP suppliers show it as available at my house. Does anyone know if this delay is normal or has something fallen through a gap and can i do anything ?

Many Thanks

Matt

Which other providers have you tried and which exchange area?

Each ISP either needs to purchase cablelinks at the head-end exchange your FTTP goes to from Openreach or buy service from a Wholesaler that has purchased them.

BT Wholesale are very quick and seem to get these as homes become available, others are more selective with Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, Zen etc. selecting only the ones they consider to be commercially viable for themselves. Are you in a large town or is it a smaller rural deployment?

If BT Consumer are showing as available then that means BT Wholesale have the required Cablelink for your house. That should mean other ISPs who use BT Wholesale should also show up, does EE, Zen (they use BTW outside their footprint) or A&A show up for example? If they do then it looks like it is just BT Wholesale that have service at the moment.

Is that definitely FTTP? Or is it FTTPoD, which is not the same thing?

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro, 4G+ (LTE) max 165Mbps down, 24Mbps up on Three Mobile, and B311 4G+ router, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up (Three)ZTE MF286D router speedtest.net 113/20Mbps.

Yes, order from BT

Six months and no-one else suggests the finanicial viability of others implementing/purchasing links &c is not good. You would be half way through a contract if you had ordered from BT at day 1.

Not always - OR FTTP has been available for a month here (S London) but BT Wholesale are nowhere to be seen.

Zen were the first in (but only offering up to 330/50 - not an ECI OLT as others offer 550/75) and TalkTalk arrived two weeks later. Sky are also on sale but I'm not sure when they went live.

It's not atypical, let's put it that way. It's quite variable who and when decides to provide service. As pointed out they need to get their backhaul connection to your serving headend exchange and buy any necessary CableLink(s) or otherwise gain access via someone else (e.g. BT Wholesale). They may not have prioritised it, or indeed decided that expense makes it commercially worth their while (yet or ever).

You can buy service from whoever is available now, or just wait and see.

Hi Matt,

I'm guessing you have reached out to us at some point as you mention you have contacted Openreach suppliers. Do you mind if I take the ticket reference that would have been opened?

When an availability check comes in, we check up and down a street, as often properties can be missed and we can get these corrected, but if a whole street is all showing the same, something sounds a miss here.

Yes at £10a month more than I should be able to get and whilst the speed is a nice to have it's not a necessity, so why should I be forced to use a more expensive option. We don't live in the US.
