Latency spikes on Virgin Broadband Help Please!

[link to this post]

Hello thanks for reading.

Problem

Been with Virgin Media Fiber for around a year and its been generally pretty good. Around 3 weeks ago I started to notice sudden spikes of latency throughout the day, usually when on a video call I will get a sudden loss of connection and then things seem to rubber band, catches up, but really quickly and all start working again.

I have also noticed the same issue when gaming in the evening, on call of duty for example I will almost drop out of the game for about 20 seconds and then things return to normal.

The behaviour seems to manifest throughout the day about once an hour.

Setup

I have virgin fiber 250 MB, it runs pretty close to this top speed also. I am using the virgin router in modem mode and I have a deco m4 mesh. The work pc is wired via a powerline adapter.

Here is my latest BBQM (note an automated download started at 2am - 4am)

Here are my router settings.

Thanks in advance for any help, regards

Nick

on my graph you can see a chunk of red as I changed my router back into router mode and deco into AP, its early days but for my wired devices issue seems to have reduced, will keep an eye on it. This would suggest a problem with the deco as a router

I have VM M200 (don't think they do a 250 service?) with the Hub 3.0 in modem mode, wired to my ASUS RT-AX88U router which is responding to pings and my WiFi. My BQM is in my signature.

From yours it looks as if your router / mesh is doing something itself and not responding to the ping request from the BQM, which gives the high peak. This may not actually be a problem, or noticable to your use of the connection.

That is a pretty horrible graph TBH and I do not know how you could game on it laugh

If your router supports some level of QoS this should help a lot with Skype/Zoom etc and possibly the gaming side too.

Here is my graph on a BT 80/20 connection with FQ Codel enabled - https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...
