Sky + VMO2 + more imminent? (And a new make of TV)

[link to this post]

Following on from the thinkbroadband article in July, the ISPreview article on Monday, and VMO2 heading towards 80% national FTTH coverage by 2020, Tuesday's Times (P34-P35) is talking up Sky possibly investing in VMO2 Wholesale and obviously using it. Apparently BT's shares took a bashing on Monday, falling at one point by 7%.

It is also expected that on Thursday Dana Strong, Sky CEO, will announce a Sky-branded Smart TV.

Adam Crozier becomes Chairman of BT Group on 1 December.

I raised my eyebrows at 80% but that wasn't the real problem wink

So, actually, where does the 80% come from? Even if it is by 2028, not 2020 - easy enough typo to make.

ISP review said:
Moving into wholesale would also help to support VMO2’s plan to upgrade their entire fixed line network – c.14.3 million premises in existing Hybrid Fibre Coax areas – to FTTP by the end of 2028

There are around 28 million households in the UK. I know households are not premises, there will be fewer, but it seems to me VM02 currently plans to cover 50%.

Not trying to be a pedant (this time), just a little confused. Or not aware of how far and wide Virgin is spread?

Apparently they have an ambition to expand their network by another 7 million

As witchunt says. The VMO2 merger has sparked a much more rapid expansion of VM's full fibre coverage. My main source was as in the OP, Tuesday's Times (P34-P35). It's available in the online e-paper but firewalled.

Presumably by Monday night they had researched it a bit more than the others, or maybe even had behind the scenes more information given to them. They certainly made a big spread about it, plus the imminent Sky-branded Smart TV. Cheap advert I wonder?
