Viberoptix

[link to this post]

Hi,

Does anyone know what the company Viberoptix would be doing in my street? I can only get slow FTTC, about 31mb, as I am about 1km from the cabinet. But this morning I have seen several vans and engineers from Viberoptix working on the street and tinkering in the local street cabinets in the ground so I am wondering if they are working on installing fibre to the road and if so who for? How can I find out more? Their website just says they are a Northern Irish company and lists no details of ongoing projects as far as I can see.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them and what they might be doing/who for?

Thanks

H

They’re a fibre build contractor. Pretty new by the look of it, and a subcontractor for Fibrus.

Thanks for the info Pheasant. I looked up Fibrus too and they seem to be a Fibre supplier, but in Northern Ireland! No details of anything in England.

Possibly working on behalf of another AltNet that’s using Openreach PIA.

I don’t know where in England you are, but the local authority should be notified if there are streetworks, footway or carriage incursions. OneNetwork used to openly display that detail but it’s far more restrictive since the DfT changes. Local authority streetworks maps or DB could help if the team on the ground won’t say who they’re working for.

Local county council streetworks map and the OneNetwork map both show nothing. But thanks. I only noticed the teams up the road when driving past them a couple of times this morning, so if they come near my house I will try and speak to them. There's quite a few boxes around and they seem to have working in several of them.

If it’s FTTP work then they won’t need to touch the Openreach cabinets. If they’re working on behalf of an Altnet and they’re using Openreach PIA then they would need duct, chamber and pole access for their cabling/micro ducts/joints/CBTs etc. but they won’t or shouldn’t need to touch the cabinets.

I missed the engineers yesterday but tweeted Viberoptix and they said they are working on installing full fibre to parts of Nortern England on behalf of Fibrus as you suggested Pheasant. So you were right. But there are NO details on Fibrus site about working in England and their post code checker does not accept my post code either. So looks like I have to badger them to find out more!

Just saw this news article at ISPR and recalled this thread:
