Now i know what Plusnet will offer me next year

[link to this post]

So after my contract is over at the end of January, I will be paying line rental £21.22 a month and then broadband at £16.98 a month, so £38.20 a month, if I sign up for a new contract now it will be £27 a month for a 18 month contract, at that price I may as well go for Zzoomm as long as they move their backside and get up here when they say they will. I don't want to really pay nearly £40 a month for a couple of months or so, but I will do if I am sure that Zzoomm is going to be here when they say they will be.
i could find another provider I suppose if they offer 12 months at a decent price.

This changing providers thing was so much easier in the dial-up days smile

I recently moved my father-in-law from ADSL to VDSL with Plusnet (against my preferences) and with a full 80/20 he is paying £23.99/month, so just £2.77 for the broadband! And there was no negotiation needed, I might have been able to push it further had I tried.

At a minimum I would aim for what Plusnet are charging new customers (excluding any incentives).

So if you were renewing now (a good time) FTTC is £21.95 and FTTC Extra is £23.95 both including line rental / month.

If you want to stick with Plusnet anyone renewing now on an 18 month contract should not accept any price higher than above.

When speaking to retentions just say you would like the same price as new customers without the incentives. They may have to speak to the manager but then they are usually happy to do it.

Remember these prices automatically go up each year though.

Suggest a read of the specific Plusnet forum for more details https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/plusnet.html

[Edit removed wrong assumptions on £38/month]

plusnet have been fine to be honest and better now the cabinet have been sorted out and while, i admit 150Mb/s is nice to have, would I ever really make the most out of it? The other thing is hassle with the laying of the cable and all that stuff.
If I could get a decent price with Plusnet I think I would stay, but not if it is more than £25 a month

The problem is, i don't know what is happening next year, I suppose none of us do really, but as I have said in another part of this forum, I am pretty close to telling my place of work to stuff the job where the sun don't shine and maybe think about getting out of this awful city.

Yes, I would have preferred to move him to another provider where I could get a better deal when his unlimited UK land and mobile call plan is taken into account.

And from previous interactions with Plusnet I am not too impressed either.

I just renewed for £21.50 for 18 months which is about £2 less than their first renewal offer and I am happy with it.

I have never had any real problem with Plusnet, they have been fine to me, sure I had that problem when i first renewed with nothing connecting apart from a Huawei Mode, but they did send Out of reach to try to sort it out a few times and in the end sent me a Zyxel router, which worked for a few weeks. out of reach must have done something to the cabinet at some point, because the Zyxel works no and have done since early this year.

Sure, you may be able to get better deals, but then if things go wrong do you get a decent customer service? Talk Talk is one company I would not touch with a barge pole, which is another reason I am not so sure about going with Zzoomm. The person who started it up have this thing about starting up broadband services and then flogging them, so knowing my luck, he would do the same thing to Zzoomm and Talk Talk would grab hold of it.

That is good, not sure if I want a 18-month contract again, i will have a look around in a few weeks time and see what is available. If I had a decent ADSL connection, I would drop down to ADSl for a while if I could get a monthly thing.
I don't know what to do to be honest, sure Zzoomm sounds a good thing, ultraspeed broadband for only a bit more money, but I really don't see what use i would make of 150Mb/s.

I know what you mean about the 18 months, if fttp comes along in the mean time I would just keep Plusnet as a back up until the end of the contract.
