Re: Email problem

Well, this problem is driving me mad!!! I just do not know enough about the workings of my PCs to come to a conclusion. IDnet Support we no help as all they said was that there is "a corruption"; of what, I know not. I even tried a borrowed laptop with Office 2016 on it, set it up appropriately and that failed too. Two different routers also.

This morning for example I could send several emails without problem over a period of two hours and then for no reason, failed again.

I am so grateful for all the help offered on this forum, particularly 'Pheasant' who has gone out of their way to solve this. I am going to have to find an expert who can sit at my end of this phone line and sort it all out!!!

Hi Andrew

If you can't perform the telnet based SMTP server tests above - then I would suggest you create a fresh email account on this server and then test again. Its may well be a mailbox related issue.

All the best

Do you have data on a mobile phone that you could use to tether one of the devices to? This would allow you to test sending emails via a different connection in case it is related to your IDNet connection. You may also be able to do so if you know someone else who would let you connect to their ISP network to test (or possibly your local library might offer the facility although it may be they would block SMTP as a security measure).

I already have five email addresses with IDnet and no more are permitted. However non of them work anyway, currently.

I am going to attempt to email IDnet support with webmail (as that at least seems to work!) Surely they could sort it!!

Is sending emails from my phone using my mobile phone network [EE] and an app called Aqua Mail configured as per my IDnet email settings on my PC, considered a different connection?

If yes, that doesn't work either 😒

OK, definitely sounds like others are on the right track then - it sounds like a mailbox/server issue at IDNet rather than anything you have control of.

Right!

IDnet replied "Your IP address is being temporarily blocked because your email program is presenting invalid login credentials. This is not something we can resolve. You will need to go through each of your devices and check all the settings are correct."

That was one of the rare occasions my email worked as it should. However, I cannot find any "invalid login credentials" on any of my devices and why should they suddenly become invalid when I haven't changed anything?

I have been a customer of IDNet for 16 years so you would think that by now they would know what my invalid credentials are and ignore them 😇

Best bet is to reset the passwords for each of you email accounts - just in case one or more has been leaked/compromised and then update the the email client on each device. After that all should be well again.

OK Done that with two email accounts and miraculously it started to work again. Not sure I agree with your "all should be well again" 😄
