Monitoring / recording broadband speed

[link to this post]

Hi, I am having issues with my ISP where my 'Guaranteed 20 Mb/s' download speed falls off dramatically every evening. Often it drops to less than 2 Mb/s. I don't think it is due to the actual connection as the upload speed is relatively constant at about 8 - 10 Mb/s. Does anyone know of any software that will check my download speed at regular intervals and record the results? Ideally do checks every 5 minutes or thereabouts so I (or the software) can produce a daily graph.

Thanks

You could start by setting up a monitor https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/... and whilst it will not record download rates the graphs can show issues.

Start one now and you will have some base data by this evening.

Along with the BQM as mentioned I still run an HG612 modem as it is great once unlocked for measuring line stats.

Once you have the data showing that it isn't your line that is the issue but likely contention at your ISP you can then try and get them to resolve it.

What do you have available to run a regular job with?
Raspi, Docker etc?

If you have a way of scheduling it the speedtest here will track history - http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest

Test My Net say that they have an automated speed test at https://testmy.net/auto which will run and log a speed test at regular intervals down to every 5 minutes. It may do what you want.
