Hi,
Do you think BT are being unreasonable by locking threads on their Community support site which may assist me to connect a third-party router?
BT FTTP customers cannot change the DNS setting on their SH2. I wanted to use a piHole, so decided to buy a TP-Link ER605 router
It's a very capable Router able to support IGMP required for their IPTV channels (BT Sport etc)
However, while the Router is working well, the IPTV channels are NOT working despite IGMP being configured. It would appear that others have encountered similar issues as there are a number of threads on the BT Community forums related to using other routers with BT TV.
ALL of these threads have been locked so only the mods on the forum (BT employees) can access them.
Is it legal or reasonable for BT to deliberately hide information, often gathered by their users, to assist in the use of a third-party router?

I suggest that you establish why the threads have been locked. It may be that they contain information about how to share the IPTV with people who have not paid for it.

Not related to the locking of threads, but IGMP is a layer 2 protocol that only works on your local LAN - multicast over the WAN is likely to require PIM - does your router support it?

Thanks for the info, I will investigate.
I am aware that the UDP multi-cast packets may not be transferred via the PPoE protocol so PIM may be being used

The first thing you need to find out is, are you breaching any T's and C's. If you are by using your own router to access the service then you can't complain if they are locking threads that detail how to work around it.

I doubt they are breaking any T&Cs so it is likely to be legal.
However, my point is that they are locking threads on their community forums which have been written by their customers, not BT, and so are actively obstructing any useful information.

You doubt they are breaking any T&Cs, maybe you should check first, thats like saying I doubt I am speeding without knowing what the speed limit of a road is as its no defence.
Are you also saying that because customers post on the community forum they can write anything they want without prejudice? The thread will have been locked for a reason.

They were not locked but rather permanently moved to board that serves a purpose of storing historical threads. Old threads get moved to this board once they have been archived for a while. Once moved they are only accessible to moderators.
It's a way of trying to prevent clutter and keeping content and topics fresh and relevant.

That's up to them. Their forums are owned by them and they are free to publish whatever information they do or don't feel like on their website.
You have no "right" for your post to be public, you can of course publish it on your own website.

Not answering the question but...
Can you disable the SH2 DHCP server? If so, you can use the Pihole as the DHCP and DNS server on your network, setting the gatweay to the SH2 LAN address. No change of router required then?
