Retail ISP's??

[link to this post]

Hello TBB users. I'm looking for a bit of help. I'm trying to find a list of retail ISP's and approx number of customers. Is that sort of data in the public domain? The list of broadband packages at https://www.thinkbroadband.com/packages is very useful but don't know if it is UK wide, and then I'm trying to find out how many customers they all roughly have. Any help to find that info would be much appreciated!

Why are you requiring this information? is this for a commercial project?

Try annual reports to shareholders for the big companies (BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Sky) and then for the smaller ones guess. Its commercially sensitive information.

This type of request is usually a university student needing to write a dissertaion they should have been working on for months. Possibly at Cambridge, given the nick.

Edit: Nothing wrong with using this site and forums for research of course, as long as properly included in the list of references. Information has to be gleaned from somewhere.

Edit: Or maybe Oxford, trying to disguise.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

As well as jchamier's suggestions, a similarly reputable source to this one is ISPreview.

We can only speculate at this point.

You can see some numbers on our broadband report from earlier this month:

Thanks Seb. That's a great report. I thought I had replied earlier but it didn't get posted for some reason. Contrary to earlier speculation I am not a university student doing research 😊

The only information I have is this... https://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/top10.php
Top 10 UK ISPs By Subscriber Size

BT (PlusNet, EE) (Est.) 9,300,000
Sky Broadband (UK) (Est. 2023) 6,200,000
Virgin Media (VMO2) 5,653,800
TalkTalk (on-net) 4,200,000
Vodafone UK 1,158,000
Shell Energy 595,000
Glide (Mostly Students) 400,000
Hyperoptic 250,000
Zen Internet 175,000
KCOM 139,700

The problem is that this is only statistics for the top 10 ISPs, it doesn't give information for all of the ISPs or the bottom by lowest subscriber size. It is definitely something I too am curious to know!

If it's any help in your breakdown, Plusnet claims about 1.4 million customers.
