Renewal time - all speed quotes are awful

I'm on Sky broadband, bog standard fibre to the cabinet package of around 50mb.

I've been shopping around for new packages and everywhere is only offering me 5-10mb packages and I have no idea why. Trying to query it with the ISPs is hopeless as I just get variations of "thats what it says"

Any suggestions on what I can do?

It could be that you fibre cabinet is full and so they can only offer ADSL (yes, it is a silly system that it appears that even if you already have FTTC the act of moving supplier means they release your existing connection, give it to someone else waiting and then put you on ADSL whilst waiting for an available FTTC connection).

Can you enter your search on the "BT Broadband Availability Checker" and see what results it comes back with as I think that should confirm if your cab is full.
