Exchange only line

[link to this post]

Sorry guys I can’t seem to find the answer on the Openreach website.

I’m currently on an exchange only line with a 10 mb max download and 1 mb upload.

The exchange in question is Erskine.

The only alternative is Virgin Media.

I see Openreach are withdrawing legacy products that are on copper lines.

How does this affect exchange only copper lines?

Any upgrades to FTTP?

Thanks in advance.

The copper stop sell is only relevant where FTTP is available, if you can't get FTTP then OpenReach will continue to provide copper to you. So, in your circumstances the copper stop sell is irrelevant. Your only question is whether OpenReach plan to provide FTTP to you but barring using the online checkers you are unlikely to get much information on plans. It is possible it is still not considered viable for FTTP in your area due to economics and as Virgin is available they may not be expecting a high conversion rate to pay for the installation of FTTP to your area.

I can see on Samknows that some of the exchange addresses have FTTP.
You can sign up to updates on the open reach site
https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/where-when...
Hopefully you'll get an update soon.
I'm based in East London, Romford Exchange and be upgraded to Openreach FTTP by December 2026 but have BeFibre available near enough now and Community Fibre within a year or so I'm going.

It will affect everyone as they are withdrawing Wholesale Line Rental.
FTTC lines will get moved to SoGEA and the telephony service to VOIP if the provider offers it.
ADSL is looking to be moved to a product called SoADSL with a similar outcome.

Thanks

The original question was about what happens with exchange only FTTC lines - in essence nothing. The voice component might change but the FTTC will carry on until such a time as OpenReach offer an alternative. Stop sell doesn't change this aspect and in essence they will just keep FTTC.

There is no such thing as an Exchange Only FTTC line. EO lines are ADSL supplied from equipment in the exchange. FTTC services with no phone service (SOGEA) will continue unless FTTP is available.

For properties with neither FTTP, SOGEA nor SOGfast available, they will have SOTAP (it's not called SoASDL). That will include your EO line, unless fibre products are made available in the mean time.
