Why do people sell their openrach ont on ebay

I could understand the vdsl modems being sold ebay but OR onts are next to useless to somebody else

It think your question is wrong... The question would be "why would people buy openreach ONTs on ebay". If people buy them then people will sell them. If there are no buyers then they aren't selling them on ebay they are just listing them.

If someone is building their own GPON lab then a £10 Openreach ONT is a cheap part of that. They might also want a spare power adapter and buying a new-in-box ONT is a good way to get hold of that.

Lots of reasons, and maybe some people are confused and think they are FTTC modems.

I seem to recall posts on here about cloning ONT serial numbers so as you could use your own ONT.

Folks are desperate (I'm being polite - many are thieving little scrotes, that would sell their own grandmother if it made them a quid)

A "victimless" crime perhaps. Selling what you don't own but no one will come after you.

They are probably nicking them off 'new build' construction sites.
