Vodafone fibre copper broadband

[link to this post]

Hi, could someone please help. I’m a vodafone customer and my interleaved depth was 8to1 which was great, but after a few power cuts it’s jumped to 16to1 and is nowhere near as good for gaming. Does anyone know if the dlm will go back to what it was, or am I likely to have it stay how it is. Thanks.

It ought to, it should respond to periods of ‘stability’ , no reboots, low error counts.

Hi Zardaz thank you for replying. I’ve also got a skyQ box with sky mini, as well as a Sonos Beam, which can be problematic when playing online, and maybe causing noise on the line, and as I’m 3.4 km to the exchange the original interleaving was 16 1 when I was on 40 dl and 10 up. The only time it’s changed from that is when they upgraded me to 70 20. If it doesn’t go back to 8to1 after a few weeks could I get openreach to intervene, I don’t mind paying them, thx.

You cannot get Openreach to intervene, you can raise a fault with Vodafone, and they may request Openreach to look into it.

Distance from the exchange is immaterial, as the DSLAM is near the street cabinet.

Disconnect and unplug all the ancillary equipment, and run without it for a while, does this help things ?

Yes, it will normalize after some time. Obviously DLM is interpreting the power cuts as an unstable line and has been triggered to lower speeds increase SNR/latency in order for the service to be smooth.

Even if Openreach were to intervene and reset the line, the problem is that you may get power cuts again causing this to trigger the issue. You'd have to address the power cut issues. Maybe try and install some power bank to your router to prevent this from happening.

I could try that, i’ll Let you know the outcome. I have a live bqm running would you mind taking a look and letting me know if something doesn’t look right. I have a lot of small red dots at the top but on the whole I’d say the graph looks ok.

Hi Blazing, the power cuts are very rare, if at all, but it rained for 3days and there was constant lightening, a second one was the electricity meter going on to emergency and losing power temporarily, it’s just really bad luck that the 2 cuts were in quick succession which has changed the interleaved depth to 16 1. I have a bqm running, would you mind taking a look and letting me know if something looks off.

I thought the DLM was meant to take into account other connections on the same cab when it came to say lightning. So if all lines on that cab are having errors/noise due to lightning, the DLM wouldnt kick in as it knew it was a more global issue than just your specific line.

I know we have had lightning strikes, errors on line etc and the DLM didnt do anything

This is interesting, how would it differentiate between a D side cable breaking down and lighting because surely both induce errors.

same spike at the same time across 30+ lines in different bundles perhaps. Would require more local wiring knowledge to be programmed into DSLAM than may be cost effective though.
