What to if BB fails

[link to this post]

Our BB failed on 2 Feb which killed the telephone too. Fortunately we have the BT Hybrid Hub in addition to the BT Home Hub 2 so we were able to communicate. I asked the BT Openreach engineer today how people could/should report a fault if both BB and phone were off the air and they only had a mobile ?
He gave me this number and readers might like to make a note of it . . .

08006781107 - which is apparently 'BT Wholesale' - no, I don't know either.

You call your ISP, just like always

That's a number for Communications Providers to contact BT Wholesale or Openreach.
It's not for end users.

9 out of 10 of the options go to a dead line, tell you the office is closed, or ring and go nowhere.

Just a tale that shows how bundled mobile and broadband+VOIP could still fall over.

I don't have a landline. Just Three, for mobile and for a Home Broadband Three router.

Three went down completely for a while, leaving me with nothing.I was expecting an important phone call from an NHS hospital in the 1pm-5pm time-slot. At noon the service was still down.

Luckily I have my previous phone stuffed away in case a complete fail like this happens. With a £9pm 5GB PAYG, that does accumulate up to 12GB or so. Tried to add it to my NHS account, then call the hospital to alert them to the alternative number,

Neither the App nor the website will let you have a "landline" or second mobile. Luckily Three came back up about 12:30, and the incoming call at 2pm.

End of my tale, and I can implement my plan for most purposes by pretending my old mobile is a landline number. (Problem - specifying the default as simply reversing the roles on most sites could make things worse).

What it shows however is that before long a lot of people will be forced to rely on a bundled mobile if broadband goes down, but if the bundled mobile service is also off they could well be stuffed.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

Yep, as John has said, you’ve been given duff info there.

and some will be like me, relying on wifi calling, so if internet goes down it's hit or miss if I have a mobile signal.

Can you link to any bundled mobile provision alongside fixed line broadband? Whilst VMO2 Ltd do offer discounted mobile services on their VoLT plans, this isn’t really bundled. VMO2 still offer a ‘landline’ via the phone port on the router. Plusnet is one of the odd ones in that they no longer offer phone services at all. (Their mobile division closed also).

My breakfast scrambled egg yesterday must have reached my brain frown. I started that post saying I have no landline, then forgot that most people's broadband for the foreseeable future will be landline with some form of "digital voice" and probably WiFi calling through their router.

Thanks for the heads-up, and my apologies to everyone else.

No issue, there are ISPs (like Plusnet) whom will stop offering any sort of "home phone" service when WLR ends.

WiFi calling on mobiles only works if the network is working as Three/Smarty/iD customers have found in the last few days...!

Isn't that what I in effect said in the part of my post you removed from the quote? Bearing in mind my original error occurred precisely because I rely entirely on Three, which I had stated smile.
