Community Fibre FTTP ONT alarm LED

[link to this post]

I'm on a Community Fibre FTTP service and it is using an Adtran ONT.

I've just seen that the alarm LED is a solid red colour. Previously this LED had been off. The optical LED is solid green and I can connect to the internet. Speedtests are showing the expected results.

I've spoken with customer services and they say that there are no issues with my connection.

Does the ONT need a reboot to clear the alarm LED? Or does it indicate that whatever potential issue, which triggered the alarm, is still ongoing?

If it was me I would reboot the ONT first and if its still showing red afterwards I would keep kicking CF until they fix whats causing the led to illuminate. It could be a faulty ONT or something else.

Agree. I had an Adtran ONT (via Swish Fibre) that went tits up. Rebooting it didn't work, and it turned out the leds were giving a spurious indication anyway. So if your fault is similar to mine, you can't trust them (tho in my case I couldn't connect; the ONT wouldn't recognise its OLT).

Swish swapped out the ONT next day, and the replacement has been fine since (~ 8 months ago).

I had that happen a while ago, that Red Alarm LED can mean there is a Firmware Update or an issue with the Adtran Modem.

Mine stayed with the Red Alarm LED for a month, but I just asked them to come and replace it, but no rush due to the connection was fine, and they sent out an engineer a week later.

If you turn it off / rebooting the Adtran Modem, wait for 2 mins when its off before turning it back on.

If it helps anyone else, I followed one of the suggestions in the responses and kept being persistent with Community Fibre until they arranged for someone to come over. An engineer visited today and the ONT was quickly swapped and the red alarm LED is not lighting up on the replacement ONT.

I had a chat with the engineer and they said that the alarm LED lighting up red might be due to a failed update on the ONT and they seemed to think this could have been resolved remotely. The old ONT was taken away - the engineer indicated that they should be able to reset it and get it updated.
