Wear and tear

[link to this post]

My ISP (IDNet) provides RSS feeds for (amongst other things) assorted network status messages... a couple turned up this morning that I didn't expect to see:
Fibre - General wear and tear - IL2SOLT - HEAAED /rack=1/shelf=1/slot=NTA/port=2 - Jedburgh - JH
Copper - General wear and tear - DP - 30 - Tealing - TLA
(Both with the usual anodyne text "BT is making progress towards full restoration of Service. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible".)

Copper I can just about understand, but what is "General wear and tear" on a fibre? crazy

Just means there is a faulty component ( card/SFP/ module etc ) that has gone faulty by no particular means.

Another couple this morning, but making a bit more sense- "Fibre - General wear and tear - CONNECTORISED SPLITTER NODE"

I wonder if they read this site?

Anything that doesn't fit into a definitive definition e.g. power fault, hardware failure, 3rd party damage etc is marked as wear and tear.

Sounds likely, but even a little bit of detail is nice to see.
