Old-school broadband speed tests with images to download?

[link to this post]

Now that I've finally got a reasonably fast fiber-optic connection, I'd like to do some of those old-school internet speed tests that would track the time it takes to download different images. I remember one of the images -- the biggest one, I think -- was a fighter jet.

Does anybody have a link for one of these test sites, assuming they're still operating?

I know where to find standard speed tests like Ookla. I'm interested in this older style test, just for fun.

Thanks.

Thanks, Taras. Those are. both good ideas and could indeed be used to test download times. I had been thinking of a speedtest site that would let you watch the image be realized on the screen, then report the download time.

Depending on where you’re pulling your image / distros etc. you will then start to shine a light on other parts of the internet that can reveal sometimes surprising or unforeseen slowdowns.

Having a fat pipe in the last mile helps a lot though. Enjoy.

These files were built by us to be precompressed etc so should measure speed well smile
