Do OR Charge A Termination/Cessation/Disconn Charge On FTTC?

[link to this post]

If you cancel a Plusnet FTTC connection (not migrating / complete cancel including phone line) and you are *not* in contract do Openreach charge Plusnet a termination/cessation/disconnection charge?

Or is that a legacy thing that doesn't happen now?

If it is still a thing do Plusnet forward that cost onto the customers last bill? How much?

Thanks

Pretty sure they do.

When I left Plusnet as a cease in 2019, and my parents left in 2024 also as a cease, there was no cease charge from PN.

Call PN to ask if your terms require a cease charge, it is unlikely. Or ask in the PN forum here.

cancel including phone line

Yeh OR do charge for the remaining time on your billing interval and will try to charge you for the next one as well (if you are "too late for the billing cycle" for this one even if you are bang on the notice period) which means you pay for the next billing period + your final bill, then have to claim the overpayment back.

You can get that stamped on if you ring and "discuss" the issue (in my case they wanted me to pay them £94 for the next quarter, and claim back the balance, on a final bill that amounted to £10).

OR does not directly charge any consumers in this way. I suspect the same for Businesses.

Your isp invoices you for any amounts raised.

Via google the OR/BT group charge is £30.50 for dsl lines - your isp may elect to charge you.

edit, this came from https://greenisp.net/terms/adsl_cease_charge.htm is wrong and probably out of date..

Sorry for any confusion..

Thanks - is there specific wording I need to use or will terminate, cease or disconnect my internet and landline all do the job with no room misunderstandings?

OpenReach has no visibility of the contractual relationship between Plusnet and their customer.

When you take an 18 or 24 month contract with Plusnet, Plusnet are *not* taking an 18 or 24 month contract with Openreach.

The Openreach price list is public information. In the case of SOGEA, the service cessation charge is zero. I haven't checked the old-style WBC + FTTC arrangements.

However, when you cease a service, some ISPs do charge their customers a cease fee (if they're not migrating away to another provider). You'll have to check your contract terms with Plusnet to see if they will or not. Whether or not Openreach charge a fee to Plusnet is irrelevant here; it's the contract terms between Plusnet and the customer that matter.

HI Taras,

Hmmm OK. I am so old that I still see OR and BT as basically the same.

My bad, it was BT who charged not OR.
