My friend received a call from their GP on their mobile, but they couldn't hear the caller. They then rang the GP surgery back and experienced the same issue.
To rule out a problem with their handset, my friend called me. The call between us was completely normal - we could both hear each other without any issues.
We then set up a conference call and rang the GP surgery. While on hold, we could hear the recorded messages and could also hear each other normally.
However, when the receptionist answered, something very odd happened:
I could hear the receptionist.
My friend could hear the receptionist.
The receptionist could not hear me.
The receptionist could not hear my friend.
I could no longer hear my friend.
My friend could no longer hear me.
So effectively, all three parties could hear the receptionist, but neither my friend nor I could hear each other, and the receptionist could not hear either of us.
Has anyone come across anything similar before, or have any idea what might cause this?
