Joint User Pole.

[link to this post]

When a pole is a 'Joint User Pole.' eg.. Electric power cables (normally at the top) and Openreach Phone or Fibre cables below.

what is the pole number used , is it the Electric poles number used for openreach identification use ?.

BT only poles start with 'DP' number

The poles identity numbers and safety markings are all from the owning tizzy company.

Occasionally, there will be a DP tag, but not always.

When last I was ‘on the tools’ the electric companies round here were getting very fussy about any new FTTP stuff going on their kit.

AIUI, it depends upon whose pole it is. The agreement between the GPO and the Electricity Boards [going back] was that either could use the others' poles. Just to add to the confusion, I have a pole in my garden which is recorded as an electricity pole, but only carries PSTN and fibre - no electricity. As best I can tell, it was put in for a temporary supply while the house was being built, after which it carried the PSTN and an underground permanent supply was put in. The temporary supply was then taken down.

Such situations as the one you describe in your back garden can become tricky. If the electric company no longer use/maintain them, then despite there being legacy BT or Openreach kit on it, they are not testing and maintaining either.

Attended on in a punters garden in Earley, the base was as rotten as a pear (you could easily push a large screwdriver right in to the heart of it) the pole had started to lean badly…. But was not maintained by Openreach.
A ‘PIDOC’ order was (pole in danger of collapse) No lorries could get nearby, it was lowered safely by hand. The punters dropwire was able to be rerouted from the original DP via two different carrier poles .. the whole Shebang took about two days.

Yes, it had been without electricity for about quarter of a century. OR installed a CBT and there was no question about its status, presumably because they did this from a cherry picker. But when my fibre was about to be connected from my CSP, the status of the pole was found from records. The connection was then done from a cherry picker and a pole inspector came, checked the depth and marked it up with an inspection plate. So I suppose OR did the pragmatic thing and put the pole on their asset register.
