Keep old ISP with FTTC to FTTP switch to avoid fees?

[link to this post]

OpenReach are now offering FTTP for me 🥳
I have 3 months until my OneStream FTTC contract ends. They cannot offer what EE will, so I am choosing to switch early.
I know OneStream early termination fees are 'interesting'.
They want ~£300 from me.
It would be far cheaper just to let the contract run.

Can anyone see any technical issue with letting the contract run until termination and cancelling once over?
EE's contribution towards fees would be £200. But I assume it won't actually be £200 of that.

All advice considered helpful!

Order NEW fttp from your chosen supplier. Don't have your new supplier replace the old fttc. Cancel the fttc for the end of the contract. You might lose the contract buyout, but if it is cheaper to continue the old contact than buy it out, this is the way to go unless you can bear waiting until the end of your contract.

That is my exact plan. I agree!

But it's not about the semantics/logistics, the question is, is there any technical reason why I can't have the FTTC supply running at the same time as the FTTP? Will there be any issues with my service provision?

There is absolutely no problem with doing that, technically or commercially.

Some folks deliberately keep this type of setup specifically for various reasons. Just remember to cancel the FTTC once the contract is up.

There should not be, as the two services are completely separate physical connections to the premises.

However a number of people have had issues where the installer has cut the existing FTTC copper cable and used it to pull in the new fibre service where the route involves an overhead connection across a road or an underground connection through a tight duct. Just make sure on the day the installer is made aware that the new connection is an additional, not replacement, one.

I have done exactly that a number of times this year, albeit for business premises.

Make sure you write something like "this is a new ADDITIONAL service" into the notes section of any order, or any other communications you have with the new FTTP provider.
Do not use the switching service.

Have you asked them for an EXACT breakdown of that fee?

If you aren't paying over £100 a month then that ETF would not meet Ofcom's requirements of fair terms. ETFs should also reflect any reduction in costs of the CP not having to provide the service.

Onestream have a somewhat dubious reputation for some things , as far as early termination charges , outwardly it’s not that unreasonable, £17 for each incomplete month of the minimum term , so 3x£17 , £51 , but the way the inflate this figure smacks of sharp practice, the ‘free installation’ offered at the start , is only free if you see out the minimum term , so they add upto £125 for that , they then charge for the non return of the router (even though they haven’t asked for it back yet ) it’s upto £125 for that as well , they say they will refund that once the router is back in their possession, but that is how they get to the £300 figure.

Yes.
£17 per month left.
£100 activation fee discount I had
£125 for the router they don't want back but the T&Cs say that I will never own.

The T&Cs are about to go through my AI legal friend's eyes!

Thanks all for the really helpful advice.
