Graphics card needed for new 1600x1200 monitor

[link to this post]

I've just ordered this monitor from Ebuyer

As the native res is 1600x1200, I've a feeling I might need to buy a new graphics card as well.
(I'm currently using 'on-board' graphics, which seem to max out at 1280x1024)

Can anyone suggest a suitbale card, for around the

Oops, I forgot to mention that
It'll have to be AGP, as my motherboard is quite old (MSI, running a 2.6Ghz P4).

Also, if I wanted Freeview TV (or maybe video editing etc), is that via a seperate card ?
Or would it be integrated into the graphics card

whats the onboard graphics, most current graphics card should be able to cope with the resolution for general day to day use (dont even bother with games )

The res is probably stuck at 1280x1024 due to the current monitor drivers.

That's true...I didn't think of that
The monitor I'm using is an old 17" Belinea CRT, with a max resolution of....(you've guessed it).....1280x1024

BTW, I'm using an old 865GM2-LS motherboard from MSI.

Hopefully that'll work

yeah doesnt break the graphics down too well.

Anyway if the monitor youve ordered has dvi then its probably better getting a new card.

this one should be more than capable for under

Thanks for all your advice levi.....it's much appreciated

I think I'll wait until the monitor arrives, and see what it's like with my current setup.
If needed, perhaps I could look to get a new graphics card in the New Year

Very true. I wanted to run my monitor in 1440x900 but it wasn't an option on display settings. Installed the new drivers and hey presto!
