Looking to get something like this for my dad, just for word processing and Internet, really like the looks of 3 hours battery life

any recommendations on alternatives products or reviews on this particular one would be greatly appreciated

I recently got an Acer Aspire 5100 and I'm really chuffed with it. Runs really nicely but did the usual of removing all the usual bloatware that comes preinstalled on everything these days!

Take the claimed battery life with a pinch of salt...the manufacturer's figures are a bit like those of car makers ideas of miles / gallon. You never get what they claim in the real world.

I usually get about 1.5 - 2 hours at a push, although the wireless is always on and I'm always doing something...no idle hard drive etc. It pays to keep the mains adapter within reach!

I suppose I fit into the catorgory of your dad, in as much as I too do a general surf and word proccessing and I too am considering a laptop as my windows'98 Pc of 5/6yrs is playing up and dosen't (in my opinion) seem to be able to accommodate the increased speed that I now get via TT. I don't download music/films or play games, only transfer photo's etc. so nothing high tec is required. A basic model seems to be required, but where from ? how much ?.

I suppose I've got to get my head round connections. Given that I wouldn't take it out of the house, presumably I'd connect viw the speedtouch330 modem that came with the TT package.
