Is my router Faulty?

[link to this post]

hi, i have a edimax asdl 2+ router model no:AR-7084A wired 4 port,
i have just 1 pc connected to this, the pc lan connection (adapter ) i have given a static I.P.and entered in my isp's dns server details, i did this for u.torrent ,my router is also set so it does not give out ip's (dhcp is off) my pc ip is outside it's ip pool also, as per instructions from port foward,
the problem that has only recently developed is that after a period of everything working as it should it will randomly prevent web browsing,no site is reachable, email is also affected too, but other types of protocols seem unaffected by this,i can also still access my router's web page with out problems, the problem is solved by re-booting the router, btw my internet connection is fine,as is reliable, definitely the router, any ideas as to what could be causing this random problem ? ty in advance

You may have more torrent connections than your router can handle , assuming it is locking up while utorrent is running.
Try limiting the number of connections utorremt can make and see if this makes a difference.
FYI, I have found Netgear DG834GT/834PN routers do not seem to have this issue.

no,it doesn't seem to occur during uploading or downloading using u torrent, it will just happen randomly i'll be browsing and all of a sudden i can see the next web page, or sometimes it will load one partial, but other apps appear to not be affected, so the internet connection is there, just the bit from the router to the pc(web browsing) ppp session i think its called

Sounds like a possible DNS issue. As the other apps that you run may stay open as they already have the cached DNS records but when you try and surf to new pages, it fails as cannot do any more DNS lookups.

Have you tried pinging something via IP when this happens to see if, indeed, internet connectivity is still there? Next time, try pinging 212.58.226.138 from command line.

well, i tried pinging several a addresses but it can't find them, but i am able to ping the router, and after running a diagnostic check from the router,
>> Testing ATM OAM end to end ping ... FAIL
Ping Primary Domain Name Server . FAIL
>> Ping www.yahoo.com ... FAIL
was displayed at the end of the test

so i configured the router differently, set it to auto discover the dns server instead of using the ones i selected as it would skip the primary dns test, now it passes ,
but even though i reset my connection several days ago according to the reported uptime is only 1 day and 5 hours ago since , which indicates that it may have dropped connection or restarted ,i have not noticed any problems ,by dsl connection is /has been reliable so i don't know
