Dell Inspiron graphics problem

Hi.
My Inspiron laptop is just over two years old. I've had an intermitent problem with the graphics for a couple of months but now it seems permanent. It started off with the graphics becoming very low res then the screen started going blue with yellow lines and scrolling and now it is mainly a reddish colour. I used to be able to cure it by pressing on the bottom of the case just next to ram modules but this doesn't work now. I'm using the laptop connected to my desktop monitor and all is ok so do I have a screen or board problem or something else?
Some feedback would be appreciated before I start stripping it down.

My acer has that problem and it turned out to be the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the video card. It's under a cover at the top of the keyboard half near the LH hinge.

Try going to the Dell Website and download the latest drivers.
Had the same prob and this worked for me

my inspiron does this occasionally, screen goes all wonky. Logging off or rebooting fixes.

I will check the ribbon cable. Due to the way the fault manifested itself I'm hoping it's something like this but wasn't sure if it was just wishfull thinking
I'll take it apart and have a look.
