Ye olde P450 Win98SE machine was insulted when power inadvertently turned off at the wall socket before shutting down. When power switched on again power light showed on PC but no boot, did not respond to reset button and would not shut down when PC power button held in for the regulation 8+ seconds.
The next time power lead was detached/reconnected, PC showed no sign of life and I couldn't get it back on at all.
Went away for 24 hours to think about it and tried again today: attched power lead and without me touching the on/off button it looked as if it was booting - HD LED flashing merrily away - turned my back and it was dead again.
Any ideas? The PC hosts my email archive which are on an old proprietary mail client so I can't just pull out the HD and read off the archive in a more modern machine.
Memo to self: must rethink backup strategies!

That's what I was afraid of. Looks like it is going to be scraped knuckles time again

Glad I'm not the only person who suffers from that with the insides of pc cases

Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

Would you like the good news or the bad news?
A new PSU from my cupboard of bits for PCs I'm definitely going to build one day fixed the problem.
BUT the mounting holes for the old PSU aren't in the same place as the new standard, so I can't mount the thing. The old one is an Astec ATX202-3515 which sounds like the current standard - or have I got that wrong?
Well, I can at least use the PC in a horizontal position with the PSU sitting loose in the bottom of the case while I extract the data.

Some atx psu's are different in length so that answers your Q!...Yep extracting the data from the machine might be a good idea .!
