Wow, since when/why has this come about ? i've only just bought a GTS250, pleased with it to.

More or less what Taras said. I don't really keep up to date with it as I am not a gamer, but my work mate is and have been looking at building/buying a new computer. He told me yesterday that Nvidia have been re-branding their old cards with a different model number, which I knew anyway, still way behind in getting a Direct X 11 card out, something that ATI have already done even in their budget range.

The new superduper Nvida fermi chip is behind and have got loads of problems with either over heating or need loads of power, like a 1,000 watt power supply just for the card alone.
The last time they demoed one, it was a mock up, the card was not real, and people only found out because it was dropped on the floor or something like that.

ATI is really pushing now.

I have seen some of the reports and I know that Nvidia owes a lot of money and need to get a card out quick, but as I said, most of it is hear say for me.

It will be a shame if Nvidia did go belly up as we need the competition, could you imagine if AMD went out of the Cpu market the only one left was Intel? I doubt we would have the technology for the price we have got it for if that happened.

The same for video cards, each company pushing the other company to make better and cheaper.

It itsn't a straight rebranding across the range because of a new name scheme but more to make it not look they have 2 year old products. ATI did rename but it was a complete range..

The new superduper Nvida fermi chip is behind and have got loads of problems with either over heating or need loads of power, like a 1,000 watt power supply just for the card alone.

The 480gtx is rumoured to use 250 to 293watts. if it is the latter its 6w outside the pci-e spec. Very low yeilds mean nvidia are making a loss on each card. Psu wise for the 480 gtx is min 600w psu - with a single 12v rail needing 42a - most psu's provide multiple 12v rails.. so you will need a new psu too tongue.

The last time they demoed one, it was a mock up, the card was not real, and people only found out because it was dropped on the floor or something like that.

No the first time they showed the product the Nvidia ceo when held a dummy card and said "this baby here is femmi"...

I have seen some of the reports and I know that Nvidia owes a lot of money and need to get a card out quick, but as I said, most of it is hear say for me.

Not heard that

True but when Nvidia resorts to pretty underhand tactics and confuse the consumer, i can recommend their products.
