WARNING TO ALL NVIDIA USERS

[link to this post]

WARNING TO ALL NVIDA GRPAHICS CARD USERS!!

Driver version 196.75's auto fan speed control is NOT WORKING. Your card may OVERHEAT.

Go to http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk and download 196.21 drivers ASAP.

Thanks for reading!

We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.co.uk. Until we can verify the root cause for this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. The 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our website.

I've upgraded to that version but, luckily, my 8600GT doesn't have a fan. (Couldn't stand the noise.)

I just updated mine last night, I thought it would be a good idea to see if there was a update, they got 196.21, so they must have taken the other off.

Oh well the way it is going Nvidia will not be around for much longer, time to look at ATi i think.

It is never ending, I was thinking of updating the whole system, but now think why bother.

My system is a Asrock N68Pv-gs motherboard
2gb of DDR2 ram,
a PNY Geforce 9400Gt video card, for some reason i thought it was a 9600.
a Athlon II dual core 250 processor, with is 3Ghz.

And various hard drives, also my new keyboard. smile

i was thinking of updating the whole lot, apart from Keyboard, but not really worth it, I need to get some more memory, DDR2 is a bit pricey, but then so is DDR3, the dual core does what I want.

The main things i want is more memory, a bigger hard drive, a 22 inch monitor and a bluray burner, oh yes and to replace my mouse.

I will get them first and then maybe I will chage the video card to a ATI one, it depends if Nvidia keeps going or not as a work mate told me yesterday that they are pretty close to going under.

The system is working fine at the moment, just when I do some complex video editing it slows down, due to memory more than anything.

Nvidia is in a mess atm

Re branded cards (8800 to 9800 gt 9800 gtx plus to geforce 250 etc) and many users don't realise. Add in that the first version of Femi is 6 months delays and only 15,000 units are gonna be produced.

So they now are gonna have to Femmi 2 and hopefully things will get better

More or less what Taras said. I don't really keep up to date with it as I am not a gamer, but my work mate is and have been looking at building/buying a new computer. He told me yesterday that Nvidia have been re-branding their old cards with a different model number, which I knew anyway, still way behind in getting a Direct X 11 card out, something that ATI have already done even in their budget range.

The new superduper Nvida fermi chip is behind and have got loads of problems with either over heating or need loads of power, like a 1,000 watt power supply just for the card alone.
The last time they demoed one, it was a mock up, the card was not real, and people only found out because it was dropped on the floor or something like that.

ATI is really pushing now.

I have seen some of the reports and I know that Nvidia owes a lot of money and need to get a card out quick, but as I said, most of it is hear say for me.

It will be a shame if Nvidia did go belly up as we need the competition, could you imagine if AMD went out of the Cpu market the only one left was Intel? I doubt we would have the technology for the price we have got it for if that happened.

The same for video cards, each company pushing the other company to make better and cheaper.

It itsn't a straight rebranding across the range because of a new name scheme but more to make it not look they have 2 year old products. ATI did rename but it was a complete range..

The new superduper Nvida fermi chip is behind and have got loads of problems with either over heating or need loads of power, like a 1,000 watt power supply just for the card alone.

The 480gtx is rumoured to use 250 to 293watts. if it is the latter its 6w outside the pci-e spec. Very low yeilds mean nvidia are making a loss on each card. Psu wise for the 480 gtx is min 600w psu - with a single 12v rail needing 42a - most psu's provide multiple 12v rails.. so you will need a new psu too tongue.

The last time they demoed one, it was a mock up, the card was not real, and people only found out because it was dropped on the floor or something like that.

No the first time they showed the product the Nvidia ceo when held a dummy card and said "this baby here is femmi"...

I have seen some of the reports and I know that Nvidia owes a lot of money and need to get a card out quick, but as I said, most of it is hear say for me.

Not heard that

True but when Nvidia resorts to pretty underhand tactics and confuse the consumer, i can recommend their products.
