Desktop Computer

Hi all

I need a new desktop computer since the one I have had for years has come to the end of its life.

I need help in choosing a new one and will be using it to type my letters, working on spreadsheets, internet and everyday computer stuff. My budget is £400 (can't go beyond that)

Another poster had the same request a month or so ago .. and I think we suggested

Only problem i can see with it is the low profile pci-e x16 slot being low profile (if you wanted to upgrade your gfx card).

Having a look at dell website at the moment since the last one I had was a dell but don't know what I am looking out for to choose one.

It will certainly do what you said you require from a computer.

To be honest your original question is a bit like "how long is a piece of string"?

If you trawl around sites e.g. www.ebuyer.com you might find a better deal but you may also be searching for ever for the 'very best' deal and have that many options; none of which may be identical; thus making it difficult to draw comparisons.

I've used ebuyer quite a bit recenty and the service has been good, but there are other vendors.

Have a look at http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/home/ but remember you will have to price in a monitor and version of Windows as well.

Not too bad at all really, considering what you want it for, no doubt you could get something cheaper online with the same specs or something the same price with better specs.
the advantage of buying it local is that you got somewhere local to take it to if it goes belly up in the first year.

I do like Acer stuff, I have got a old Acer 17 inch monitor and it is still working fantastic after 6 years and also my laptop is a Acer/

Not so sure about Dell, certainly not the cheaper ones, the one my sister-in-law had was very disappointing, could not manage simple things very well like doing websites and desktop publishing. the more expensive Dells are not bad.

I would go for the Acer, it seems a nice machine.

I bought a £300 Zostorm then up graded the psu & gpu for £91 and I can play the latest games.
The PC came with W7, 500gb hd, 2gb RAM & an Intel dual core 2.8ghz and no monitor.

Sadly after seeing the psu spec of your zoomstorm pc i wouldn't want start upgrading a psu on a new computer ..

you can get some stuff from PC world at pretty good prices, sure a lot of their products are over priced.

but I would not buy a P.c already built, prefer to build my own, apart from laptops and Macs of cause.;

I did consider building one from Novatech, but like another poster has said, you have to add the OS on top of the kit price.

If you can beg steel or borrow an extra £80.00 & use your old moniter untill you can afford a new one, take a look at
