Hi
Thinking of replacing my replacing my 6 year old 19" Viewsonic VP191b desktop monitor, cracking monitor but only 4:3 so on the lookout for a 20-23" 16:10 LCD monitor....not interested in a 16:9 as i would prefer the additional height of a 16:10. After reading a lot of reviews , the Dell 22" 2209WA (IPS) is at the top of my list but this is nearly 8cm thick!!! (the viewsonic is only 5cm thick). This will go on my wall and my viewing distance is only 3 feet so need it as close as possible to the wall. Can anyone recommend me an alternative e-IPS 16:10 monitor (20-23") which is less than 6cm thick? Or are all IPS monitors fairly thick? I'm willing to spend up to £300

You mention the Dell - that is a 16:9 not 16:10.
The Dell actually uses an LG panel I believe so have a look at LG - they have a 20" and three 22" monitors at 1680x1050.
I went for a full HD LG and so far build quality and display are excellent.

Mine is the E2250V - which has an LED backlight so power consumption is very low.

Mine's the W2243S, the same I think. I was more interested in price, resolution and VESA-mount than the power consumption

The Dell 2209wa is definitely 16:10 (also the clue is 1680x1050 res...16:9 are usually full hd @ 1920x1080)

Where can i find the full range of LG desktop monitors? On LG's website its just got the TVs.

On the maths - assuming pixels are square you are right - but if pixels are not then it could be. Looking at the LG site they give 1 monitor as 16:9 and the others as 16:10 - all in 1680x1050.
http://www.lg.com/uk/it-products/monitors/index.jsp will give all monitors then select the size &c to narrow it down.

Thanks but all LG monitors appear to be TN/TFT based which means their viewing angles are pants. So really need a IPS monitor (which has superb viewing angles). Since IPS is only just becoming widespread i might wait a while for a better range of IPS monitors, hopefullly as technology progresses the screens will get thinner and prices will come down

Specs are near identical - the 2250 is actually a 21.5" with slightly smaller pixels. When I was looking the 2243 was actually more expensive - the 2250 cost me about £120 + VAT (£141) including next day delivery.

the dell 2209wa is extremely popular and for some reason dell have already made it EOL, selling like hotcakes.
for this reason I plan to buy one just for a spare as I havent found a suitable monitor on the market that will replace it if this one dies.
