Playing a divx(avi) file on dvd player problem...

hi,
I have a cheap (under £50) sony sr90 and an expensive (over £100) panasonic dmp-bd60. I've been putting avi files on to a TDK DVD+RW.
Now both players say they play divx on them. However unless I put the files on to a usb stick the panasonic won't play them.

Update: - the panasonic see's the dvd+rw just not whats on it. However if I put the same files on to a cd-r it has no trouble at all.

why is this any ideas?

Not that technical myself but I do remember that when recording some disks need to be finalised to play on other players.

Or ...it may have nothing to do with it.

Not all players support all disc types (-r +r -rw +rw etc)
Sounds like your Panasonic doesnt like +rw. User guides normaly clears this up for you

Although a different machine, my Panasonic DMR-BW780 is specified NOT to play divx on DVD +R or +RW discs. Manual states it can play divx from BD-R, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, CD-R, CD-RW, USB device.
