I'm visiting a friend on Tuesday evening. He tells me that when using Outlook Express (OE 6 on XP I think) random characters are missed. Apparently not in other applications. I think the keyboard is PS/2 connected.
I'll probably take a spare keyboard with me, just in case.
Any thoughts on what it may be?
Could be some obscure driver problem or system setting?

Could just be particular keys rather than Outlook. If not, check for malware. Good idea to take a spare keyboard.

They don't have any pets in the house - or children before you ask.
Though I know of a neighbour whose cat jumped on her laptop keyboard and broke off one of the key-tops, she just stuck the unusable key-top on the panel to the left of the touch-pad. Fortunately it was the Z key so wasn't used much
