The reason that there are OS-specific versions has more to do with how the update utility gets Windows to allow it access to CMOS memory. The actual BIOS will be the same. If you search for the error message on Google, you will find plenty of work-arounds. However, the simplest solution would be to use the DOS update utility that comes with the zip file. If your laptop doesn't have a floppy disk drive, there are plenty of websites that tell you how to flash DOS to a USB memory stick.
