Best Cordless Phone on the Market?

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

We are on the lookout for a decent cordless phone of which we will be purchasing two of.

Our last Cordless phone was deemed faulty because it was found to be inducing voltage into the circuit (Or something similar from memory).

Does anyone know of a high quality cordless phone which has the highest reviews at the moment and is the most recommended? Preferably one which is reliable and doesn't induce voltage wink .

Thanks for your answers

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Out of interest, if we buy two of the same type of cordless phone, will they be on different frequencies (Will we be able to have them allocated to their own base station only)?

Not sure I understand the Q.

You can generally allocate any DECT handset, of any make, to any base station or be on auto.

If you mean having more than 1 base on one line, I'm not sure, but I imagine you can if you really need to in a very large house where the signal won't reach. My Panasonic handsets work way down the garden.

EDIT: Website I recommended would be able to help you by phone with any technical Qs; I found them very helpful.

Yeah that was the question.

Our bungalow is quite large and some of the walls are very thick so the old cordless phone we had, had quite a lot of signal problems.

I would of thought that it need to be enormous for modern DECT cordless not to reach.

I have a large house with proper interior walls and the one 5 year-old Panasonic Base reaches all 5 handsets scattered around the rooms both upstairs and down.

EDIT: They also do Long Range Phones with Repeaters.

I've got those. Not the latest models, as I bought mine some time ago, but I haven't had any problems with them.

I think one handset is slightly quieter than the other, and its display a bit dimmer (no, they're not on different settings), so they're not a perfectly matching pair. But it doesn't really matter, as long as both work. The "quiet" one isn't too quiet to be used - just quieter than its mate.

I researched DECT phones at length earlier this year, and thought the Siemens and Panasonic seemed best.

But I could not find any phone at all with the feature I was looking for: an alarm that could be set to alert just before the 60 minute mark so that my call did not go beyond the free call limit.

Siemens Gigaset are easily the best. Granted not cheap, but then again they are made in Germany with excellent build quality, crystal clear voice quality, allow you to do things like use your own mp3 ringtones, sms to your mobile phone when someone leaves an answering message etc & designed to last you many many years. However just bear in mind that many gigaset DECT models use a separate base station, some like the S795 (which i own) don't. The S810A is an updated version of the S795 and comes highly recommended:

Can't say which is best, but one to avoid is the BT Freelance we foolishly bought as a "Tesco exclusive" (yes, I know, there's one born every minute frown ). It's flimsy, fiddly to use, answering device slow to turn off (one must go through the procedure with two button presses) and in all respects it's inferior to the six-year-old Panasonic which it replaced.

We've had Gigaset C475 for a couple of years now - got it in a John Lewis sale at an excellent price for base/answer machine and three handsets - has always worked perfectly.

I have found that having things like recent caller lists, we rarely use the answer machine though, and the phone flashes if a call went unanswered.

Previous models we had that did have problems at some point were BT and Philips makes.

I looked around for a good DECT phone and decided on the Panasonic KX-TG6592EM Twin Pack Big Button DECT Phone with 40 minute TAM (Telephone Answering Machine) the answering machine I donít use. I use the Free BT answering machine through Orange. This phone is not posh but highly functional with excellent sound quality.
